I can still remember October 4, 1996 as if it were yesterday. I can almost smell the sea air, hear the roar of the outboard motor and feel the shock as I fell into the spinning propeller. My entire life was changed in a flash.

It took the Coast Guard more than two and some half hours to arrive on the scene to pluck me from the Mississippi river. I had managed to climb back into my boat, assess my wounds and made mental arrangements to die. As I laid in the growing pool of my life's blood the voice of God spoke to me. "You will live and not die." He was there!

The professionals say I should never have survived. I had lost about five pints of blood, had no emergency treatments, had lost my right arm and experienced great damage to my left hand.
